Three Options

Purpose This spread expands the traditional binary choice spread into a ternary analysis, examining three distinct paths with equal depth. Decision-making is one of tarot's most ancient functions - from the earliest cartomancy, seekers have consulted cards at crossroads moments. Key Major Arcana govern this spread: The Chariot (willpower directing choice), The Wheel of Fortune (fate vs free will), Justice (weighing options fairly), and The Lovers (meaningful choices with lasting consequences). Each option receives Nature-Challenge-Outcome analysis, allowing comprehensive comparison before commitment.

When to use it Use when facing a decision with three clear alternatives (jobs, locations, relationships, investments). Ideal when you've narrowed options but need deeper analysis of each. Effective when all three choices seem viable and you need to understand the full implications of each path. Also valuable when you sense one option might be better but can't articulate why.

When to avoid it Avoid if you don't have three distinct options clearly defined - use Binary Choice instead. Not suitable for yes/no questions or when time pressure requires quick action. Skip if options are dramatically unequal in importance. Consider a simpler spread if you're already leaning strongly toward one choice and just need confirmation.

How to read it Analyze each column (option) independently first: Nature reveals the essence of that path, Challenge shows obstacles to expect, Outcome indicates likely results. Then compare horizontally: which Nature resonates most? Which Challenges concern you least? Which Outcome aligns with your values? Count Major Arcana per column - more indicates greater significance/impact. Note elemental patterns: all Wands suggests action-based paths, Cups emotional implications, Swords mental/communication focus, Pentacles material outcomes.

How the positions relate Compare all three Nature positions to understand the fundamental character of each path at a glance

Compare all three Challenge positions to identify which obstacles feel most manageable

Compare all three Outcome positions to see where each path ultimately leads

Each vertical column tells a complete story - follow Nature→Challenge→Outcome to understand each option's full arc

The Wheel of Fortune principle - look for which column shows the most balanced elemental distribution for sustainable choice
