New Moon Intentions

Purpose This spread aligns with the new moon's traditional role as the time for planting seeds of intention. In ceremonial magic from the Golden Dawn onwards, the new moon represents the alchemical stage of 'coagula' - bringing something new into form. The dark of the moon is the 'blank slate' when the cosmic canvas awaits your creative imprint. The Ace cards govern this spread's energy as pure potential; The Magician (I) represents the conscious manifestation of will. The five positions follow the classic manifestation sequence: clearing space, identifying true desire, taking aligned action, gathering support, and projecting forward to fruition.

When to use it Use during or near the new moon for maximum symbolic resonance. Ideal when beginning new projects, setting goals, making fresh starts, or needing clarity about what you truly want to create. Perfect for New Year intentions, birthday wishes, or any threshold moment when you're ready to plant seeds for the future.

When to avoid it Avoid when seeking closure, release, or endings - that's full moon energy. Not appropriate during full moon phases as the symbolism conflicts. Also avoid when you're feeling scattered or uncertain about direction (the spread will only amplify confusion), or when you need practical planning rather than visionary intention-setting.

How to read it Begin with Blank Slate - what fresh potential the new moon reveals. Aces here indicate powerful new beginnings; The Fool suggests a leap of faith. Move to Heart Desire for your true soul wish - Cups cards indicate emotional fulfillment goals; Wands passion projects. Aligned Action shows the first step - this must be practical and achievable. Support reveals allies and resources (Pentacles for material support, Cups for emotional). Month Potential shows what can realistically grow in one lunar cycle - temper expectations based on the card's energy.
