Your Personal Spread
A layout built around your own cards
Most spreads treat every position as neutral. A personal spread does something different: it places your fixed cards — Personality, Soul and Year — on the table as anchors, and reads a single fresh card against them. Instead of asking "what will happen?", you ask "where am I in relation to who I am?"
Setting the frame. Take the three cards you already know and lay them face-up as the spine of the reading:
- Personality — your outward pattern, how you meet the world.
- Soul — your deeper drive, what quietly steers you across a lifetime.
- Year — the theme of the season you are living now.
These are not drawn; they are placed. They are constant, and seeing them together already tells a story: sometimes Personality and Soul pull in the same direction, sometimes they hold a tension you have felt for years.
The Growth card. Now shuffle the full deck and draw one card, face-down, into a fourth position: Growth. Turn it over and read it as a live message about your next step — not a prediction, but an invitation. Ask three questions in turn:
- How does this card speak to my Personality — the face I am using right now?
- How does it answer my Soul — the deeper need underneath?
- How does it move my Year theme forward, or ask me to soften it?
If the Growth card is itself a Major Arcana, notice whether it belongs to the same numerological family (constellation) as one of your anchor cards — that often marks a lesson circling back around.
Working it. Do this reading at thresholds: a birthday, the start of a Year card, a decision point. Keep the anchors fixed and let only the Growth card change over time. A journal of successive Growth cards, read against the same three anchors, becomes a quiet record of how you are actually moving.
**The general mechanics of spreads — shuffling, positional meaning, reversals,
reading card-to-card — are taught in the Spreads course.** This lesson assumes
you already have that grounding and only shows how to build a layout *around
your personal cards*. If any step above feels unfamiliar, visit the Spreads
course first and return here.
